Excerpt Extravaganza! and...BeaslePunk and the World of Steampunk

Hello blog fans! So glad you stopped by today.

We will soon be changing up the Monday posts to bring you news that has to do with our BeaslePunk division. For a few weeks we'll be sharing all kinds of cool news from a sub-culture that is sweeping the globe with its stunning fashion, weaponry, and stories.

So get ready...starting next Monday we will begin to share the splendid-ness of this creative world.

Your steampunk blog hosts for this segment will be BeaslePunk's foudners/owners and award-winning steampunk artists, Don and Janet Beasley.

We look forward to seeing you here!

In the meantime...here's this week's excerpt. It comes from the Hidden Earth Series. Janet Beasley's third volume released on November 4th, 2016. So here it is...straight from Volume 3 Planet Water ~ Draugar of the Abyss.

“Here it comes!” shouted Meilí. Arrowanna looked up as he and Torleik threw a large empty basket over the edge; it was tied to a heavy rope. Arrowanna felt her hair swish from the breeze of the dropping basket. It came to an abrupt halt just below Sidra.

Arrowanna shouted, “You need to raise it a bit. I can’t get her into it down there.” The basket swung and banged into the side of the ship as her twin brothers pulled it upward. The wind blew the cold waters of the deep even worse as the tall ship rose and fell through the massive swells. Arrowanna feared the basket would hit Sidra and knock her from the rope ladder. Arrowanna shouted to her brothers, “Hold it there. That’s a good height.” She turned her focus to Sidra and lowered her voice to a soothing volume. “Now, we’re going to play the game we used to play back home with Poppie’s seaweed baskets. You’re going to step into this magic basket and make a wish, and see if it comes true.” Arrowanna held Sidra’s hand so tight it was turning white. She hated seeing the rope burns around Sidra’s wrists and ankles where she had been tangled up and thought, That must sting something awful. Arrowanna watched Sidra put one leg over the basket’s edge.

Sidra said, “Sis, it’s too big, I can’t get my leg in it. I can’t touch the bottom! Can I just make my wish now?”

“Oh, Sidra, sweetheart. You have to climb into the basket, or your wish won’t come true.”

“But we don't have any flower petals either.”

Arrowanna thought quickly and answered, “We can sacrifice a couple of things and your wish will still come true. I’ll come and lift you in, and we’ll use imaginary flower petals. I’m not going to let you miss a chance to make a wish.” Arrowanna struggled against the violent movements of the rope ladder while still holding Sidra’s tiny outstretched hand in her clutches.

Sidra screamed.

Arrowanna felt Sidra lose her footing; she now dangled by one arm.  Arrowanna’s adrenaline surged. She yanked Sidra closer to her, relieved that she had not let her baby sister fall into the depths. In one more swift move Arrowanna lifted Sidra into the basket.

“You did it Sis! I’m in the magic basket. Can I make a wish now?”

Crying through a hint of laughter, Arrowanna said, “Wait, we need to sprinkle you with the imaginary petals!” Arrowanna made quick movements and said, “Já, now you can make your wish.”

“I wish...” Sidra did not finish her wish, but rather screamed at the top of her lungs along with Meilí and Torleik as a wave caught the rope ladder just so, sending Arrowanna plummeting into the icy water. Arrowanna heard Sidra’s screams, and between the fifteen-foot swells, she saw her baby sister in the basket being raised to safety by her twin brothers. Now all they have to do is save me, she thought. She felt herself rise again and be pushed forward from the force of a wave, and the wave behind it came crashing over her.

Arrowanna disappeared.

BeaslePunk - Steampunk - What Is It? AND...Happy Birthday Sir Bwana Beasle!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
SIR BWANA BEASLE

Sir Bwana Beasle
(aka Don Beasley - artist)
~     ~     ~

BeaslePunk is the creative side to JLB Creatives that possesses Steampunk tenancies while dipping into the realms of fantasy, and scifi.

Award winning artists, and owners of JLB Creatives, Don & Janet Beasley, have captured audiences by the tens of thousands with their highly detailed, stunning craftsmanship in the realm of Steampunk and beyond.

If you are not familiar with Steampunk, fear not...you're not alone. Many people ask Don & Janet when they see their artwork and costumes, "What is Steampunk? Where do I get it? Am I the right age? Can I Steampunk? How many gears do I need? Does it have to steam?"

Don & Janet are always eager to educate their fans to open their eyes to a brand new world from the past that never truly was. They assure their curious customers that there are no age restrictions to the culture, and also add that Steampunk is a very "visual" society. They put the icing on the description when they share that Steampunk is home to many tinkerers, thinkers, creators, and makers. If time allows, they enjoy sharing some of the history of Steampunk too.

Jules Verne
Steampunk most often times gets the credit of its origin from Jules Verne, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and rightfully so. Verne is one of the best visual creators when it comes to Steampunk.
However, there was another fantastic author in the late 1800's who introduced novels filled with illustrations of Steampunk style apparatuses. His name was George Griffith. (Sir Bwana Beasle's inspiration for his costume).

George Griffith was much more than an author. He was also a seaman, a teacher, and a journalist, all aspects of life that certainly had to add to his creative genius when it came to his novels. He was the author of The Angel of the Revolution, and A Honeymoon In Space to name a couple.

George Griffith

Griffith's original novel, A Honeymoon In Space, was written at the turn of the 20th century. A ground breaking story at the time, it introduced a Steampunk SF theme through illustrations. This classic story imagines a solar system full of alien life and adventure. A young American woman marries an English Lord and finds herself on the adventure of a lifetime. While touring outer space on her honeymoon the story takes the reader on a series of amazing encounters, visiting things such as the gentle Bird-Folk of Venus, Jupiter's horrifying monsters, and the aerial battleship fleets of the evil Martian warlords. Featuring the first publication’s original illustrations, it is said that this is a landmark novel in the genre of science fiction.

BeaslePunk's style of art is unique in a sense that it covers so many genres.

Steampunk is where it all started for Don & Janet. As creative epics, they've always (and still do) enjoyed the make-believe culture.

Their first encounter came January of 2015 when they decided to brave up and put their artwork on display. It was so well received they were humbled and excited in the same breath!

It has become a snowball affect for them as their artwork recognition is climbing rapidly, and within a little over a year they have crafted over 200 pieces, nearly selling out every where they exhibit.

If you would like more information regarding BeaslePunk art, would like to discover more about the artists, or find out where BeaslePunk will be next, we invite you to visit BeaslePunk.com

We invite you to stop by BeaslePunk on Facebook and wish Sir Bwana Beasle a Splendid Birthday Indeed!

The Beasley's...Makers of Opulent Steampunk

One fine day steampunk enthusiast Don said to his steampunk enthusiast wife Janet, "Check this out...I think we can be makers. Whatta ya think?"

Janet turned to see the pic Don had up on his screen and instantly said, "WOW. Now that's what I call cool. I think we can do that. Heck, we can surely try, and at the very least we will fail. But we always learn from our failures, right?"

Don shrugged his shoulders and said, "Right."

Janet leaped from her chair. "So let's go for it!" And so they did.

The rest is history. This upstanding couple has worked diligently birthing a passion neither knew they possessed. That passion being the love of creating steampunk, diesel punk, and cyberpunk art. Hence the name of their art line, BeaslePunk.

Since the birth of their passion in this field as makers.artists in December of 2014 they have designed and created punk style vintage hats, masks, and over 50 spectacular cosplay guns and have at least that many waiting in the wings to be invented. In fact, they decided that when they appear at events they would call their exhibit booth The BeaslePunk Cosplay Armory.

Their uncanny, professional knack at making these #MadMax style opulent guns has led to getting their work into places such as Tijuana Flats Tex Mex Restaurant, and the Cackling Hen's Cafe`. For more photos of their "making talent" visit the BeaslePunk Galleries

They are getting excited (and confess that their entire house looks like a prop barn at the moment) about exhibiting at the Steampunk & Industrial Show coming October 17-18, 2015 at Renninger's Market located on 441 in Mount Dora, Florida.

Janet and Don are keep a secret from everyone, but they filled us in, and let us tell you...you're not going to want to miss what they will have on display in addition to their artwork that will be for sale. We were able to talk them into letting you catch a sneak peek of part of the surprise. Trust us, we've seen the whole thing, and one can only imagine what the rest of this display piece is going to look like!

October 17-18, 2015)

Don & Janet (and Oswald) hope to see you at the show! Look for them in booth #220! HINT: You can't miss them :)
