Regular blog posts are still appearing on Mondays - but with a little bit of a twist. 

Due to the enormous success we have had with Maycly - I need to get busy on the next 5 novels...you read right...5 more novels! For this reason, every Monday we're going to head to the archives and the postings will be some of the coolest and most helpful blog posts I made throughout 2011 and early 2012. This will allow me the much time needed to let my creativity run wild and write, and write, and write. ;-)

WEEK 10 TOPIC POST:

    Isn't technology wonderful? Because of the great things the internet offers, we are introduced to folks who sometimes become a major part of our lives and they live nowhere close - in fact I've met some who live on the other side of the planet and we converse regularly. In addition, the connections I've made with family and friends from years gone by are priceless. Every one of them will be treasured for eternity!

     I'd like to ask the question, "Will you become a part of my life through my novels?" Only you will be able answer that question after reading "Maycly."

     It is with a humble heart, I wish to extend a very heartfelt appreciation to all of you who have been with me from the beginning, those of you who have joined with me in the middle of my novel project, and those of you who have just discovered JLB Creatives and decided to follow us through this incredible journey of writing and illustrating. Thank you.

Janet's Condensed Life Story:


     According to my friends and family, I’m outgoing, fun, very creative and always try to look on the sunny side of life. Now granted, some of these folks haven’t had the opportunity to catch me on a bad day. You know, like when I'm in my writer’s den, birthing ideas and trying to write them down as fast as they come to me! Those particular times can get a little hair-raising and the dog looks at me with that “look” where they tilt their head and just stare at you like you’re crazy at the moment…which you are, but you don’t let them know that!

     I’m an animal lover, with dogs being number one on my list. I love to travel. Discovering new places and meeting new people from other lands is always a thrill. My husband and I have always enjoyed the outdoors. We kayak as often as possible, go hiking…and of course never without my camera!

     Let’s start with my childhood. I was born and raised in Beavercreek, Ohio. It was a typical Midwestern childhood, where mom stayed home and dad went to work. My grandparents lived with us – or we lived with them, I’m not sure how that was, I just know we were all together in one big house.

     I turned six and started to school – and actually couldn’t stand it. It was scary. Plus I wasn’t interested in learning what they had to say, I had other things I wanted to learn about…like what land I could be princess of when I got home, how to care for fairies, as well as slay dragons, and make some new imaginary friends.

     I started my stage career when I was five, wearing a lion costume, singing and dancing to Animal Crackers in My Soup – at least I thought I was singing, perhaps no one else saw it that way.

     I was involved in theater, dance, choir, and band all throughout high school. I played Lady Larkin in Once Upon a Mattress, and served as a chorus singer and dancer for Guys and Dolls. Both were an absolute blast!

     My husband and I were childhood sweethearts. We dated for six years before we got married and we’ll be celebrating our 30 year anniversary this July. 

     We were always very interested in the theatrical genre, so with both of us having entrepreneurial spirits, we founded our audio visual design/install company, Multi-Tech Productions, Inc. in 1998 and it’s still going strong. MTP offer design, installation, and training on a multitude of commercial audio visual systems: churches, theaters, restaurants, schools, etc. I don’t do any of the physical work any longer due to health restraints, but Don keeps it going strong along with his “day job.” Living in Florida, the business has been through four hurricanes, and as if that wasn't enough, we discovered the “magical(?)” life of financial ruins. It bounced back for a bit, then the business nearly went under in the collapsing economy, but with God's help, we have survived and so has Multi-Tech.

      As I mentioned, when I couldn’t keep up with the physical demands of audio visual and live productions, I turned to baking, and took over the family gourmet dog treat business (My grandmother’s secret recipe was handed down to me). I expanded the business to include “People Treats” but life has a way of not sending out memos on some things. Several chronic illnesses stacked up on top of the one I already had. All of them have tried to get the best of me, but I’m not a quitter, but again, I had to take some time and consider where to channel my creativity.

     

     It was then that a dear friend and fellow writer reconnected with me on Facebook. We hadn't been a part of each others lives for over 30 years. I told him about the epic fantasy novel I had started years ago and that I didn't know what the heck I was doing. Sure, I'd written several self help books, been published in trade magazines, developed classes, and spoken at conferences nationwide...yet I'd never taken the serious effort to tackle a novel. He and his senior executive editor read one of my chapters and said the creativity was there, I just needed to hone my writing skills…NOW GET BUSY...AND FINISH THAT NOVEL! :) So I thought about it, and said to myself after a few days of consideration...what the heck?

     I finished the story over the next 2 years while putting myself through writing school at age 49. And now at age 50, I'm looking at submitting my first epic fantasy novel, "Maycly," either for publication by a company, or on our own as an ebook in the very near future.

     One day I received a call from my sister. She asked me if I would like for her to maybe draw a few of the animals that were beginning to show up on Maycly. Long story short...and 71 illustrations later…Dar has served as my full time illustrator. She's been a true blessing throughout the project. One of her degrees being that of an English Language Specialist hasn’t hurt either. When it came time to proofread, she was right there for me again. Together, we have written and re-written "Maycly" several times. 

     Between the support and encouragement of my supportive and loving husband, sister, mom, dad, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, etc., and all of my dear wonderful friends, AND with the "I'm not a quitter" attitude I strive to present daily, without a shadow of doubt, Maycly will be published one way or another. And as the author of "Maycly" I hope to become a part of lives around the world.

      Space travel is awesome...not that I'd ever have the nerve to do it, it's still awesome! I remember the teacher stopping class, bringing in a TV and we watched as Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon.  I also remember getting to go on field trips to the museum of natural history, with my favorite part being the show in the planetarium. I always felt like I was actually in space, floating with the stars and learning about them.

     Living in Florida has its advantages...for instance, we can watch a shuttle or rocket launch from our back yard! NASA and Kennedy Space Center are only an hour away. If you're like me, you're fascinated by not only traveling into space, but also the stars and planets. Now days, one of my favorite pass times is stargazing through our telescope. I'm no pro - so don't ask me any questions on it - it just simply thrills me to see the moon, planets, and stars so up close and personal.

WEEK 10 SUMMARY:

      This week we got to find out about the process Janet took to become a writer, we learned a little more about Janet and snagged a sneak peak at a few of Maycly's secrets in the video "Meet The Author" and we went star gazing. It's been a full post!
