It's closer than you think - but it's still far enough away you can register and get in on all of the amazing benefits the Florida Authors and Publishers Association (FAPA) Fall Conference has to offer! Visit FAPA for details and registration, and to check out the entire line-up of workshops. Come be a part of the networking, encouragement, and inspiration that attending authors and publishers will have at their fingertips.

We proudly present FAPA Fall Conference presenter Deborah Greenspan

-----------------------------

Deborah Greenspan has a Master’s Degree in Communication and has written and published five books thus far: Spirals: The Connection, Kids’ Day, The Healer, Deterrent, and Mirror Mirror.
In 2000, she became a publisher and founded Llumina Press, a company dedicated to helping writers polish and publish their works. In the fourteen years that Llumina has been in business, they have published over 2400 books and helped the authors of those books through the process of development, editing, publishing, and distribution of their books.

You can learn more about Deborah at www.llumina.com and www.spiralstheconnection.com. Deborah will provide information on how a proposal is used in traditional publishing and how
it’s written. She has written proposals as a writer and has also read them as a publisher, and can provide a look from both sides of the table.

She will also discuss self-publishing and talk about the proposal in a different way, the proposal being primarily for the writer’s use. Additionally, the facilitator will address the following questions and more:
  •  How do you turn your proposal into a manuscript?
  •  What should you leave in? What should you leave out?
  •  Once you have a manuscript, how do you turn it into a published book?
  •  Do you need someone to analyze the book and its structure before finalizing your draft?
  •  Do you need an editor? And if you do, how do you find one that’s competent?
At the end of the workshop and when applying what was learned, you will be able to:
  •  Develop a proposal for effectively writing a novel or non-fiction book.
  •  Identify resources they can use in the finding and working with a competent editor.
  •  If self-publishing, decide on POD or offset printing and whether or not to have an ebook.
Mark your calendars for one of either three workshops: Children’s Book, Fiction Writing, or Non-Fiction Educational Sessions, Friday, August 8th at Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, 1200 N. Ocean Blvd., Pompano Beach, FL 33062. The FAPA’s Fall Conference 2014 on Saturday, August 9th, 2014 offers another educationally rewarding day. Florida Authors & Publishers Association invites attendees to register for the 2014 FAPA President’s Awards Banquet held Saturday night, August 9th.

Book Spotlight: Sydney Finds a Job

Sydney finds a Job the perfect book for early readers.

About Sydney Finds a Job
Follow Sydney as she tries to find a job that's right for her. Through humor, she tries several different jobs that just don't work out, but she finally finds one she loves, helping children read.

What readers have to say about it...
"Cute story for early elementary-middle school readers. Will encourage others to read to their pets. Love the graphics and photos!"

"I have worked with Sydney. She truly is an amazing dog who loves children. This book was written fantastically. Easy to read and easy to understand. I believe your child will enjoy the antics of Sydney as she tries to find her place in the world."

Sydney Finds a Job is more than just a book. Sydney is a real dog with a real job, helping children learn to read. The Australian Shepherd/Chow mix was adopted from a no-kill animal shelter by author Thom Battisto about two years ago.

Sydney was trained and earned accreditation as a therapy dog and visits nursing homes to bring a bit of furry
joy to the residents' lives. She also visits schools, libraries, and events to educate children about the humane treatment of animals. Sydney’s favorite part of these visits is when the children are given the chance to read to her.

First Lady Laura Bush had this to say after receiving a copy of the book:

“Dear Shari and Thom,

Thank you...for your work with the Read to Sydney Foundation and for sharing Sydney with others.”

Sydney Finds a Job will delight early readers as well as older children and inspires a joy of reading in all ages.

Sydney Finds a Job is also available in a Spanish language version Sydney Encuentra un Trabajo.

About the authors:

Shari Shaw Todd grew up in a small town that gave seed to big dreams of being an author. Co-writing this book with Mr. Battisto has helped her make two dreams come true: now she gets to be involved with kids and animals. Ms. Todd is currently dreaming up ideas for other books in the “Read to Sydney” series. Look for them to follow.

Thom Battisto was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in the Chicago suburbs. He is now a Florida resident and is a passionate advocate of animal rights. He has adopted several shelter dogs and has volunteered at a local shelter. Wanting to do even more, Thom and other supporters started the nonprofit organization called “Read to Sydney.” This is Thom's first book.

Where to buy Sydney Finds a Job:
and more online retailers as well as your local bookstores. If they don't have Sydney Finds a Job on the shelf request it using the ISBN 9780615979496 The Ebook will be available soon!

WEDNESDAY FEATURE "Spark Your Creativity"

#Beach #Lake #Rocks #Stones #Water
This week's photo takes us to Point Iroquois, Michigan's U.P.
Janet has titled this photo, "Dreams on the Horizon"

Happy Creating!

On Wednesdays we're posting a photo taken by our CEO, author Janet Beasley to help inspire authors, painters, musicians, and other awesome artists. We've titled the new feature, "Spark Your Creativity." How did we come up with this? Read on...

When Janet isn't hard at work in the literary world, you'll find her and her husband kayaking the crystal clear, spring fed rivers of Florida. Janet's second passion next to writing is photographing nature as they glide through the serene settings these rivers have to offer. She and her husband also enjoy traveling the US, so you'll also be seeing some of Janet's
photos taken from hikes and journeys she and her husband have done nationwide. She has used her photos time and again for her own inspiration when it comes to many of her stories, and decided she would like to share the same inspiration with the literary and arts world.

And not to worry if you're not inspired this week, come back each Wednesday to catch a glimpse of what could "spark" your next amazing piece of work. And if you don't want to wait until next Wednesday, we'd like to invite you to visit our JLB Creatives Photo Gallery on Flickr where the photos are always free to download and use as book covers, business cards, wallpaper, etc. All we ask is that you give credit where credit is due - perhaps by something as simple as adding a credit link to the JLB Creatives/Janet Beasley Flickr site in your book or on your presentation.

We hope you enjoy our new Wednesday feature, "Spark Your Creativity." And we want to let you know, if a photo inspires you to write a story that you would like to have considered for publication by JLB Creatives Publishing, be sure to visit our website at http://www.JLBCreatives.com where you'll find our company's history, be introduced to the publishing team, discover our Submission Guidelines, and may submit your work for consideration.

Enjoy!
