Never Let Anyone Tell You
It Can't Be Done

Hello everyone! So great to see you here.
Regular blog posts are still appearing on Mondays - but with a little bit of a twist.

Due to the enormous success we have had with Maycly - I need to get busy on the next 5 novels...you read right...5 more novels! For this reason, every Monday we're going to head to the archives and the postings will be some of the coolest and most helpful blog posts I made throughout 2011 and early 2012. This will allow me the much time needed to let my creativity run wild and write, and write, and write. ;-)

Not to worry, I'm not abandoning my fans - I'll still be at your fingertips through comments here on the blog, email, Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, and other social media.

So, without any further ado - welcome to the past!

(as of this post 7/31/2012, yes, I still struggle with CEBV, but just look how far I've come! My hope is that this post will be an inspiration to you and your loved ones who suffer from chronic illness)

Welcome back and thanks so much for taking some time to stop by. This week is very special to me, as I have been humbled time and time again by your kind words, compliments, and encouragement. For that very reason I am dedicating this blog to you! I felt it only fair to give something back in return to those who continue to make JLB Creatives a reality.

WEEK 15 VIDEO
"SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE"

~     ~     ~

WEEK 15 TOPIC POST: Direct from the website: JLBCreatives.com

It was in the longevity of struggles while learning to survive a different way of life,
Janet rekindled her passion for scenic photography.
Don, her husband, now enjoys taking Janet all kinds of places to "get the picture" of a life time! He says there's nothing better than to see her smile - and when she's snapping shots, smiles are happening.
Don and Janet own a tandem kayak which supplies them with wonderfully peaceful times together in their domain of the coveted outdoors. Don does most of the paddling through the quiet waters of nature, while Janet seeks out and captures moments in time that are beyond words.
Her uncanny knack at seeing God's creation through a lens is amazing! Janet's photos are all natural, there is nothing staged about them. She likes to capture moments in time as they are and not disturb what nature has put in her path for all of us to enjoy.

Her most popular photos are sunsets. Janet has captured the pinks, the purples, the oranges, the reds, the golds, the peaches, and the ambers of so many day's ends, yet she claims she never tires of them or waiting for the next to start clicking away. Sunset is her favorite time of day.
She says there's nothing any more beautiful than a setting sun casting its brilliant hues against the birch trees in the upper northwoods of Michigans U.P. in summertime.

If you'd like to check out some of the sunset photos she has on her website as free stock photos, simply click on any photo above, or follow the link below:

PIC N' THOUGHT
by Janet
It's amazing the things we can find when we
look beyond our immediate surroundings.

LINK OF THE WEEK: Chronic Epstein Barr Virus - What the heck is that?

What if you were faced with the challenges of having a chronic disease? I know first hand. I've dealt with stacking chronic illnesses for nearly 20 years. The one I despise the most is CEBV Chronic Epstein Barr Virus. Very rarely a life or death situation, CEBV is more so a lifetime dragging annoyance.

From total exhaustion and pain, to brain fog and low grade fever, it's a constant nagging of ups and downs. The best way I've been able to describe my good "normal" days is this: I feel like about day 2 or 3 of a bad flu. You know, the chills have stopped but there's still just enough fever it's noticeable. You're just plum wore out from heaving and being dehydrated - but you're on the mend. This is where I live daily.

When the news of having CEBV was first delivered to me I didn't want to believe it...seriously, who would? But over the last 20 years I have learned that, how not being a quitter and being able to improvise - adapt - and overcome in my healthy years, has paid off throughout these years of what most would consider demanding struggles.

Do I like it? NO! But have I been able to help others who have been delivered the news, or those who have had it for years such as myself and can't seem to "brighten up." Those moments have made my struggles worthwhile.

On top of the CEBV you can now throw in fibromyalgia, polymyalgia, and hypothyroidism. Holy cow!, you say. Yeah, I used to too...but learning to take life day to day, not sweat the small stuff, and always...ALWAYS...striving to put a smile on at least one person's face a day has helped me become a better person.

Look at the bright side like I do - if it weren't for being knocked for a loop and stopped dead in my tracks with these crazy illnesses, you wouldn't be hearing about or have the opportunity to read "Maycly," and you sure as heck wouldn't be hearing about 5 more novels that I have planned to write that stem from it in my now, "Hidden Earth" series.

Do bad things happen to good people? Everyday! It's all in how the people handle it, and the attitude they choose...notice I said choose. My, my, it's easy to fall back in to the early years of dwelling on the devastation watching my once highly active life crumble like falling rocks in an avalanche. But I have chosen to wake up each morning, thank God for another day filled with opportunities that I CAN handle, and put a smile on my face and keep on taking pictures and writing so other people on this earth may have a little something to smile about at the end of their day.

Many who have followed me on FB have discovered how much I DON'T like the medical field. It stems from having a disease that most medical professionals see as "simple minded," "laziness," and even "non-existent." Like my husband likes to tell them - try living with someone who has been diagnosed with it and see how "unreal" you think it is then.

After being mis-diagnosed as clinically depressed, I was put on one anti-depressant then yanked off of it because of extreme side effects, and immediately put on another then yanked off of that due to opposite extreme side effects then told by the doctors there's nothing we can do. We were left on our own to discover ways to help "ease the pain" and discomfort of the disease and try to get me well...and we've done all right in going the all natural route: vitamins, herbs, proper diet, etc. But because it is a chronic illness, it's still hanging around. We've discovered my limitations and adjusted our lives drastically to live within my perimeters. Easy? No...but doable. ;) Remember, I'm talking here with 20 years "experience" dealing with CEBV - this DID NOT happen over night - it took somewhere in the neighborhood of 13 years or so to get to where I could somewhat function again in life.

For instance, in the blog videos you may notice me slightly stammering or searching for words at times. This is one of the more noticeable aspects of the CEBV, but I try to shoot the videos on really "good" days. Here's another example: The first day I thought I was well (only a few weeks in, and it's been 20 years now) I went to the store. I called Don, my husband, in tears. I was in a large box store and completely lost! Even when I found my way out, I didn't know where I was parked. I found the car, fumbled with the keys, got in - still crying in his ear on the phone that I didn't know how to get home - and we only lived three miles from the store. We've learned that I don't drive unless it's a REALLY good day, and I don't go alone in the stores unless we have our cell phones. I go in a wheelchair if it's going to be a long day at an amusement park, or traveling by air. There have been countless times we've planned to go out to dinner and movie and after dinner I'm too wiped out so we blow off the movie and come on home.

You'll love some of the nicknames CEBV has been given, or traits with which it has been tagged. My favorites are "Drop Dead Flu," "Brain Fog," and the "Alice in Wonderland Syndrome." So now you know why writing epic fantasy is right up my alley! :-)

To learn more about CEBV, follow the link below and from there, you'll probably be able to find more and more as the link drops you into a post on a forum with some good info. I by no means endorse the site, nor do I get paid for click thrus, visits, etc. I simply want to help those of you who are not aware of this disease become aware if you are interested, as well as those who may have just gotten the news.

Our biggest challenge was learning, it's not just the victim who has to learn to cope, but also the loved ones supporting them.

WEEK 15 SUMMARY:
WOW! Talk about your ups and downs. I didn't mean to get that diverse on the topics...but when something is that "close to home" I guess your passion to share "runneth over" at times! On the up side we learned that you now have access to Free Stock photos from Janet, and sunsets are the top pick by the majority of my fans.

Thanks for hanging in there with me. Here at JLB Creatives we want to extend our gratitude to our faithful fan base for your encouragement and shared enthusiasm.

Please remember to share us with others...you'll find tons of links to do so on the right hand side of the blog, near the top.

Until next week -
Stay casual, live life to the fullest, and enjoy a piece of chocolate!

Meet Author Tracy Krauss

Hello faithful JLB Creatives Fans!
This week we're happy to have
a guest post from featured author
Tracy Krauss for our main event.

But first...

Just a quick "fill you in" on what's been going on with JLB Creatives over the summer:

Just recently Hidden Earth Volume 1 Maycly ebooks Parts 1, 2, and 3 landed ahead of the Hunger Games on Amazon! Part 3 held onto the #1 spot for a good run while Parts 1 & 2 held steady one slot ahead of the Hunger Games. It was an honorable and humbling thing to experience, and we're proud to have made such an achievement.

Maycly was written and published by:
Author Janet Beasley and JLB Creatives.

--------------------------------------------------------------

We're getting ready to publish our next book which will be a cook book.
This cook book is a companion book to the Hidden Earth Series Volume 1 Maycly.
"More Than Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup" is more than just a cook book. It holds restaurant character histories, menus, photos, and a large selection of recipes from the restaurants on Maycly - all fully preparable and edible right here on Earth! This amazing cook book is slated for a late fall release if all goes as planned...but we all know the snags that can happen when striving to make a publication the best it can possibly be. We like to say around here, "Quality takes time."

You may purchase Maycly's collection of paperbacks and Ebooks from Amazon:

And now without further ado...
allow us to introduce the wonderful Tracy Krauss

Tracy Krauss is launching her book WIND OVER MARSHDALE on Tuesday, Oct. 16. Full of intrigue, romance, and plenty of surprises, see what’s hiding just beneath the surface in this seemingly peaceful town. You can help her achieve ‘best seller’ status by purchasing the book at amazon.com TODAY – and receive all kinds of cool free gifts while you’re at it!
Here’s how:
1. Go to the Landing Page on Tracy’s Website
2. Buy the book at amazon.
3. Go back to the Landing Page and fill in the form with your name, email and purchase number.
It’s that easy! You’ll be directed to your free gifts and all you have to do is choose which ones you want.

About the book:
Marshdale. Just a small farming community where nothing special happens.  A perfect place to start over… or get lost. There is definitely more to this prairie town than meets the eye. Once the meeting place of aboriginal tribes for miles around, some say the land itself was cursed because of the people’s sin. But its history goes farther back than even indigenous oral history can trace and there is still a direct descendant who has been handed the truth, like it or not. Exactly what ties does the land have to the medicine of the ancients? Is it cursed, or is it all superstition?
Wind Over Marshdale is the story of the struggles within a small prairie town when hidden evil and ancient medicine resurface. Caught in the crossfire, new teacher Rachel Bosworth finds herself in love with two men at once. First, there is Thomas Lone Wolf, a Cree man whose blood lines run back to the days of ancient medicine but who has chosen to live as a Christian and faces prejudice from every side as he tries to expose the truth. Then there is Con McKinley, local farmer who has to face some demons of his own. Add to the mix a wayward minister seeking anonymity in the obscurity of the town; eccentric twin sisters – one heavily involved in the occult and the other a fundamentalist zealot; and a host of other ‘characters’ whose lives weave together unexpectedly for the final climax. This suspenseful story is one of human frailty - prejudice, cowardice, jealousy, and greed – magnified by powerful spiritual forces that have remained hidden for centuries, only to be broken in triumph by grace.

What others are saying:
Tracy Krauss has a deep talent. I am looking forward to more from her.
-         Tom Blubaugh, Author of Night of the Cossack

Tracy Krauss typifies all that is good in modern Christian authorship. She is consistently there for her readers and elevates her every effort.

-         Joyce Godwin Grubbs, Author From the Grassroots

Tracy’s characters are raw and real; her plots edgy and electric.

-         Lisa Lickel, award winning author of Meander Scar,  A Summer in Oakville, The Map Quilt and other inspirational novels.

There is plenty of intrigue and mystery to keep any reader's attention, but for lovers of romance, this one will make your heart pound.
-         Michelle Sutton, reviewer and author of more than a dozen inspirational novels

WEEK 20 VIDEO
"How Do You Deal with Rejection?"

~     ~     ~

WEEK 20 TOPIC POST:
Rejection is a part of life. There are so many people with so many different ideas. Heck, I've even met people who can't stand Harry Potter - gasp, I know - and others who think that Les Miserables is corny - go figure. So, with that said...I've come to the conclusion after 50 years of life you're going to be rejected one way or another. But alas...there's good news.

What might that be? The fact that you're not alone - no matter your niche`. If you're into fishing - discover and network with fishermen. If you're a dancer - meet and network with other dancers. If you're an author - find and network with other authors. You'll find across the broad span of interests there are people out there waiting to help you if you're a beginner, people who enjoy sharing their passion with others, and people who are looking to find other people with a common ground.

Living in the Orlando, FL area we have HUGE conventions taking place all the time. To show you just how diverse passions are...we've worked at, exhibited, and/or spoken at conventions ranging from IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions...a personal favorite for me) and The Nightclub and Bar Show, and to IBIE (International Baking Industry Exposition) and Pharmaceuticals, to Fantasy and Sci-fi, and on to The World of Concrete. This should let you know, somewhere within those diverse topics, there's a good chance of being rejected with your ideas and flavors for life. The best news is, even though some of these groups sound foreign to you, we, my hubby and I, can contest from personal experience - each and every one of  those conventions was packed with people who held the same high levels of passion for their industry.

So when you really start thinking about it...rejection often times comes down to not meshing with someone else's preconceived ideas. Does this make you a reject? Of course not!!  Like I stated in the video...if when you submit a work of writing and you get rejected, consider it one less rejection you have to weed through on your way to acceptance!

"I said 'I do' then...

 and I still do now!"

That's right folks - today, July 11, 2011 is Don's and my anniversary.
We are celebrating 30 wonderful years of marriage.
(He still likes to introduce me as his "first wife!")
I can't begin to tell you the fun, laughs, tears, ups, downs, and wondrous moments we've had throughout our 36 years together (we dated 6 years before we married). Another thing Don likes to remind me of: we've been together over half our lives! He's such a sweetie and I hope and pray we can make it another 36 together if not even 45!

You guessed it - we'll be celebrating our anniversary with a long weekend kayaking more beautiful rivers in sunny Florida. I only wish we could all be together to throw a big party and celebrate this joyous occasion. All of you will certainly be in our hearts, and we thank you for your continued enthusiasm and encouragement regarding my new career of novel writing.

LINK OF THE WEEK:
I'm such a cotton candy freak - I mean so much so it holds a real close second to chocolate! But did you ever wonder how cotton candy came about? Who was responsible for the mouth melting treat? When did cotton candy make its debut? Find out the answers to these questions and more from this week's LINK OF THE WEEK.  Oh, and by the way - I only opt for pink, blue, or purple - I never was a yellow, orange, kind of kid...or adult for that matter. ;-)

I by no means endorse this site, get money for click throughs, or any of that stuff. I just like to go searching for fun stuff on the web and share it for others to enjoy.

~     ~     ~

WEEK 20 SUMMARY:
Another fun-filled week of a potpourri of things. From one end of the emotional spectrum to the other we learned how to deal with rejection, celebrated a 30 year anniversary, and explored the history of cotton candy.

I certainly hope you enjoyed yourself as you read through the blog, as much as I enjoyed putting it together! Again, thanks so much for your shared enthusiasm and continued support. And also a big HOORAY for your hard efforts of helping us get the word out about JLB Creatives.

Catch you next week. Until then...
Stay casual, live life to the fullest, and have a piece of chocolate...and some cotton candy!

WEEK 13 VIDEO
ACROSTIC PROSE
(wind noise - lower volume before playing then adjust accordingly)

WEEK 13 TOPIC POST:
I discovered acrostics while going through my writing class. I was so intrigued by them, I entered a contest just to see how I'd do - I didn't win...but sometimes it's not about winning - it's just about achieving a self set goal. I had a blast trying to figure out which kind I wanted to attempt, what it was going to be about, and stay within the guidelines of the contest. (Not easy to write little when you're born to be a novelist!) :)

This week should be fun for all of my bloggers, young and old and young at heart alike. If you'd like to give it a try, simply write or type the following as shown:

L
I
F
E
I
S
G
O
O
D

Now, use each letter for the first word of your line. For example: Longing for the sun to rise. Move to the second letter, I, and write your next line and so on.

It's harder than I thought it would be. There's all kinds of words that start with each letter, but finding the right ones that create a prose that makes sense can be tricky. For instance, I probably wouldn't make the next line of this acrostic Ibises don't make great pets. I would be more inclined to develop the prose from my first line. i.e. I waited patiently for its surprise, From over the horizon it shall appear, Everyday should be so beautiful. Also keeping in the theme of Life Is Good.

Some have said that writing poetry is much easier than a novel...for me...I find both to be a fun challenge and a way to broaden my creative ability in so many different ways!

     Happy writing!

PIC N' THOUGHT
by Janet
Being part of a family is a wonderful thing

~     ~    ~

LINK OF THE WEEK:
I don't know about you, but my husband and I absolutely love to go hiking. Well, living in Florida sure we get to hike wonderful beaches, dense tropical type forests, and even sink holes, but I had been out west and hiked a few places that were far different. I still wanted to hike parts of Florida I hadn't seen and my curiosity got the best of me. I started searching the web for other places we could go hiking in Florida, and in doing so, I came across this site. It had awesome photos and was geared totally to hiking! WOOHOO! You can upload photos from your hikes and enjoy networking with other hikers...but it only gets better.

Once I had signed up and uploaded a few of my photos I received an email that I had a "comment" on one of my photos from a fellow hiker...except for their post wasn't in English. I finally figured out what to do: I downloaded a hand dandy online translator and found out that they really liked the photo. After digging deeper into the site, I found a list of how many hikes have been reported in a whole bunch of different countries! This site was getting better by the minute!

I now have "favorites" saved on the site of some of the most breath taking photos of places from around the globe. A lot of them are from hikes done on the Himalayas, Swiss Alps, The Matterhorn, plus others I didn't even know existed. All of a sudden my three foot elevation hikes seemed meaningless compared to these big boys jutting up so majestically into the brilliant blue sky on the other side of the world. But I soon found out that these hikers were just as intrigued by the "flat" hikes of Florida as I was the alp rangers. And the US has been gaining in numbers of hikes with people jumping in and sharing their hikes from out west here in the states.

I've said all that to say this - if you want to see the world but don't have time to travel...this is an excellent site to discover new places, new people, and even new animals and plants...the things that truly make this world go 'round.

And of course I by no means endorse this site, get money for clicks, or anything like that - I just absolutely love it! Enjoy!

Hello everyone! Welcome back - and a special welcome to those of you just joining us for the first time. We hope you find the blog to be entertaining, informative, and some place you can bring the whole family with a bowl of popcorn and some hot chocolate to enjoy as you adventure on down the blog.

WEEK 12 VIDEO
OUR DENS

WEEK 12 TOPIC POST:
A creative artist in not usually known for a job well done at their 9:00 - 5:00'er where they have to sit through the usually much needed, mundane day-to-day grind to keep food on their tables and roof over their heads. YIKES! Just typing about it scares me! :)

We creative folks need a place to call "home" - that may not necessarily mean our apartment, condo, or house (though a decorated dormer, a secluded basement room, or a bay window filled with a chair - tray full of colors - and a canvas do nicely.) Sometimes our creative "homes" may consist of a hiking trail, a garden, a gazebo, or a kayak gliding down a peaceful spring fed river.

It's amazing how much the senses play a part when it comes to being creative. Sights, sounds, and aromas can spark many new and wonderful ideas.

For instance, I love to scrapbook - and in doing so, instead of relaxing, I found my creativity running wild. I thought to myself...if it works while crafting an album, why not scrapbook my walls? So I did!  *****NOW ALL YOU KIDS OUT THERE - DO NOT SCRAPBOOK YOURS OR ANYONE ELSE'S WALLS WITHOUT ADULT APPROVAL AND SUPERVISION!***** I myself am 50 years old and take full responsibility when the time comes to have to spackle the holes, sand, and repaint or wallpaper the walls should I decide to change the look.

FROM JANET:
It's great having an aquarium on my desk next to a small dog bed where my puppy loves to hang out with me while I write...all day long! In the background are illustrations for my upcoming novels, scenic nature photographs I've taken, and plants galore!

When it comes to sounds, I have a library of music on my computer ranging from spa, jazz, and easy listening, to rock, classical, and gothic symphonic metal, and everything in between. It's so cool to be listening to the music that fits the scene I'm writing (which brings me to the obvious - think about how much the music plays a part in a movie - you don't normally hear circus music when gladiators go into serious battle.)

I also love to have a few candles burning in my Writer's Den - and believe it or not - I have several scents of candles for different scenes. If I'm writing about a bakery, I light up the cinnamon sugar and chocolate chip cookie candles. If I'm writing about the woods it's pine and palms. Any way, you can see where I'm going with this.

FROM DAR:

As with most artists, I tend to require inspiration for creating my illustrations. Unlike my writer-sister, Janet, who uses a lot of audio inspiration, I am more inspired by visual elements. I live on the edge of Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, so trees dominate the landscape around me. And of course there are birds-a-plenty to entertain my passion for bird watching. In addition to the boreal birds, I have the opportunity to watch water and shore birds from my back porch and deck, as my home overlooks Lake Superior. My binoculars are always within arm’s reach.

My studio is part of our home office. Computer desks cover two walls, closets full of file cabinets and supplies fill a third wall, and my drawing desk takes up the remaining space. There are large windows, one of which has been claimed by my miniature dachshund, Hammie, who has a special nonskid ramp running up to his “perch” on the windowsill. Hammie is a great source of inspiration by providing entertaining live action. I have an aquarium on one of the computer desks and a fishbowl on the other. A collection of sentimental trinkets, photos, sports memorabilia, and wall art allow very little paint and only minimal surface area to show through.

When it comes to deciding on a model for my illustrations, I depend on the Internet to show me things I have never been able to witness in person, and I allow my imagination to do the rest. This experience has come late in life for me, but it has proven to be one of the most satisfying excursions I have ever taken. I hope you enjoy going along for the ride when you read Maycly.

LINK OF THE WEEK:
And speaking of the Everglades...what an awesome place! From it's terrain, to it's creatures, to it's people and it's outstanding history, the Everglades is someplace everyone should have on their "bucket list." This week's link will take you to a page where you can learn more about the Everglades and what part they play in the planet's eco system.

I by no means endorse this site. I do not get money for click throughs, impressions, donations, visits, or any of that stuff. Any financial transactions between you and the site/organization are strictly at your discretion. I've merely chosen this site, simply because it's just really cool!
