Author Brand

Being an author means you need to create a brand for yourself. No, not DOUBLE R-BAR, or LAZY W, but the idea is exactly the same. Your author brand is your name or pen name. It is used primarily to promote sales of your books once your brand has become familiar among readers.

Take a well-known product; how about Dodge Ram? We all know certain things about it when we hear the name. For instance, we know it's a truck. We know it has a ram's head as its logo. We know that logo appears on the front of every Dodge Ram truck. We figure it must be a pretty good truck because they do a lot advertising, enough in fact, that its name has become common. That's the same thing you want to achieve as an author. People, in general, feel that exposure equals quality. So if you can accomplish exposing your name--your brand--in enough places, you'ill most likely be considered an author whose books are worth purchasing.

As an example, let's consider author Mark Twain--that's his brand. His real name was Samuel Clemens; Mark Twain was his pen name, and that was the name that gave him his brand. People became familiar with his brand and began to trust that it indicated something good (or something bad if it had happened to obtain a bad reputation. Don't let that happen). In the case of Mark Twain, familiarity with the name meant purchasers could depend on having a good read when they chose to buy his books. That's exactly what you want to happen.

If your name is John Smith (a perfectly good name, by the way, but rather common) you might want to consider a pen name so it will grab people's attention. PLEASE don't skate on the name of another famous writer, however. In other words, if your name is John Steinbeck, don't promote yourself by that name; choose a pen name. It will actually do you more harm than good to try and make readers think you are the famous author instead of yourself just to sell books. After all, you have your own style, and that needs to shine through. And who knows...you might actually become a more prosperous author than he was!

We Are Running Full Speed Ahead!

Hello fans - welcome to the JLB Creatives Publishing's Blog. We're glad you stopped by.

Last week was a busy one, and from now until the end of October we don't foresee it slowing down.

Our first event last week was our home schooling presentation regarding Journey to
Publication Writing Program Curriculum. The event was designed to introduce home schooling individuals and groups to our remarkable curriculum and how this fantastic writing program works, including the best part...someone is published for no charge with the purchase of each curriculum! It doesn't get any better than that. For more information regarding who else (and there are many) this outstanding writing program is suitable for we invite you to visit Journey to Publication

The second event came quick...Lake Collect-A-Con. JLB Creatives Publishing's CEO and her husband are "makers" (artists) of opulent steampunk and other type "punk" items; hence, the name of their art line, "BeaslePunk." To see some awesome photos we invite you to visit (and Like if you already haven't) BeaslePunk on Facebook at http://www.Facebook.com/BeaslePunk  In her spare time, when she's not working with the awesome authors of JLB Creatives Publishing, Janet is designing, creating, and crafting.

And as if that's not enough - get ready - because this Wednesday, Janet, along with with JLB Creatives Publishing's team members Dar Bagby and Jean E. Lane, will be making back to back presentations to introduce Journey to Publication to the Pickford (Michigan) middle school and high school. Dar will be there in person while Janet and Jean E. appear via Skype. The journey will begin on October 8. For more information contact the Pickford Community Library at
210 East Main Street
Pickford, MI 49774

(906) 647-1288 Ask for Ann Marie Library Manager

Then comes October 17 - 18. The Renninger's Steampunk and Industrial Show will kick off and the BeaslePunk Cosplay Armory will be there with not only their cosplay guns, and Codger Works Jewelry, they'll be adding hats and masks to the inventory. And to cap it all off JLB Creatives Publishing will have selected author's books for sale along with Journey to Publication Writing Program Curriculum!

That's it for now - but trust us, there's even more in the works!

Until next time...stay casual, live life to the fullest, and have a piece of chocolate for us!

Before you make a decision this year on a writing program, be sure to check out the benefits of the Journey to Publication Writing Program. With over 50 Adventures to choose from in our Novice edition, and over 70 in our Advanced edition your student(s) will benefit from being able to apply their newly found skill sets when it comes to applying for college, writing for magazines, writing fictional short stories, and more. In addition to being exposed to the basic writing skills your student(s) will learn in-depth information regarding the publishing industry as well as what it take to be a successful author.

And our best feature that separates the Journey to Publication Writing Program drastically from any other writing program is the fact that one student per paid curriculum will be published by JLB Creatives Publishing at no charge.
