JLB Creatives Publishing welcomes author Rhonda Walker!

We are thrilled to announce Rhonda Walker has joined our group of elite authors! JLB Creatives Publishing will be bringing you her next book Icing, Locusts, and Life. We are all super excited to be working with this great author and working hard to bring her masterpiece to readers in the future!

Straight from Rhonda Walker. . .
EVERY DAY IS ICING ON THE CAKE OF MY LIFE. It is challenging, fantastic, miracle filled, and troubled -- sometimes all at once. There are memories of the blessings of family and friends, successes and failure. I live daily in grateful awareness for a God who provides abundant blessings, especially during times of embarrassing failures.

I discovered my passion for reading early in life (right after the ark anchored on a mountain top). In 1979, when my daughters were young, I returned to college. There, English and Education professors taught me some needed writing basics and opened the door to children’s thinking. In truth, though, I began writing for myself in 1975, and my style was already developed. God blessed me with a passion for reading, the love of writing, and whatever ability I possess.

With training, skills, and God’s help, I fulfilled a long-held dream of writing stories for young readers. Several years ago, two of my grammar stories were published in a Scott Foresman textbook for first graders, and plans are underway to put those stories and others into a grammar-series book. I write stories to encourage enjoyment and learning through reading.

My first adult book, “Beyond the Shadows Is Tomorrow: Stories of Women of Faith,” released in 2013. A journey into adult fiction began in 2014. I came to know Lucinda in a series of dreams. She was but a lovely young child in the first one, but the third dream opened the door, and her life unfolds to you in “Lucinda, My Dear.”

I live in Plano, Texas, and am available for children’s group/school/special events readings and signings. My husband and I sneak off on weekends to our small house on an East Texas lake, making it easy to travel anywhere in the Dallas-Fort Worth/North-East Texas area. Since I love traveling, I am open to meeting just about anywhere.

I also speak to adult audiences and teen faith groups regarding my own life experiences.

Thursday Prompt: Alphabet Poem

Since April is Poetry Month let's create some grand prose alphabet style. That's right, you're going to create an alphabet poem consisting of 26 lines each one starting with the letters of the alphabet. Line one begins with A, line two begins with B, line three begins with C and so on.

Your poem can be silly, witty, romantic, dramatic, horror, gothic, or whatever  you chose as long as you use every letter of the alphabet. Yes, even Q, X and Z. :)

Thrusday Prompt: Time Limit

This week we're going to set our muse on fire, we're going to put a time limit on her inspiration. I know, you're wondering how putting on that kind of pressure is going to be a good thing.

Think about it for a moment. When you get an idea you sit and think about it, write a little think about it. Then delete a few lines, think a bit more. Progress is made but really how much? We tend to think too much and that can impede our muse sometimes.

Now, let's try an experiment. Set a timer for five to ten minutes then start to write. I'm sure you'll be surprised to see just how many words you've added to the page. Being on a time limit keeps you from over thinking characters and plot points. You only have time to put words into the story.

You can use timed writing as a stretching exercise before starting in on your main project. Or use it to force through a block. Get some friends together and write as a group. Make it a race, sprint to see how many words you can get in a set time, or who can get the most words.

There are a couple of tools you can use for timed writing. The first is OneWord.com, on One Word you are given a single word prompt and have 60 seconds to write what that word inspires. It's fun and a great way to wake up your muse before working on your main project.

The second is one many might be familiar with. Write or Die, you can use the online version or download the desktop version for more features. Write or Die is more than just timed writing. It challenges you and dares you not to stop writing. You can set a time limit with a word count you would like to write within that limit. Once you click write, it's on. The moment you stop writing, the screen begins to darken in color. After it turns red a horrible annoying sound will start playing. The only way to stop the horror is to start typing again.

There is even a setting for those brave enough, once the screen darkens the annoying sound doesn't play. Instead, your prose begins to be deleted backward one letter at a time. Talk about pressure!

Experiment with different times and ways to challenge yourself and muse using these limits. Have fun and set your muse free.

The time has come for his story to be told: 28 Months of Heaven and Hell by J.D. Karns

Imagine a young sailor stationed aboard a destroyer escort during WWII. Try to imagine the adventures he experiences and the sights he sees, as well as the horrors he endures. In this historical novel you’ll meet this young man and witness the wonders and tragedies with him.

28 Months of Heaven and Hell is based on the true life experiences of Naval veteran Carl Lee Young as shared with his youngest brother. This fact-based account has been fictionalized by author J.D. Karns. It is a story to stir the American spirit. You will be inspired by a young man’s journey to survive a war.

About 28 Months of Heaven and Hell
J.D. Karns' historical novel is based on the actual journal kept by Carl Lee Young while he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the escort vessel USS Melvin R. Nawman DE-416. Karns has brilliantly woven Carl’s journal entries together with fiction to create an entertaining, breathtaking, and highly factual account of the war from a sailor's point of view. Experience everything from the great typhoon of 1944 to Iwo Jima and Okinawa, and from the atom bomb to the signing of the treaty that ended the Second World War. It is an emotional roller coaster ride between the onboard action and the family back home. The realism of not only the war but also the era has been captured with expertise.

In real life Carl's younger brother, Charles, longed to hear his big brother's WWII story. When Carl returned from the war he promised his little brother that someday he would tell him all about it. That day came recently when Charles began receiving journal entries from Carl via emails, totaling 168. Both Carl and Charles are excited to have their story turned into a historic novel. Both brothers are still living; they share the dream of holding a published copy of Carl's story in their hands before being called to Heaven. Carl resides in Arizona, and Charles resides in Florida. Both are still happily married and, through emails and phone calls, enjoy keeping each other informed of their day-to-day lives.

FREE E-Books by the Young Writers Workshop of Pickford Community Library

Ann Marie Smith, head librarian of Pickford Community Library in Pickford, Michigan crossed paths with JLB Creatives Publishing's Senior Editor, Dar Bagby, and it was a match made in heaven! Together they took advice from one of the local teens and began to put together what is now known as the popular
Young Writers Workshop.

Each school year aspiring young writers are welcome to attend these sessions at the Pickford Community Library. There is a novice class and an advanced class. All students are presented an intense, interactive course that includes such things as the basics of writing, the publishing industry, book cover development, writing synopsis, creating book trailers, and developing an author platform to name a few. Presentations are given by the JLB Creatives Publishing team both in person and via Skype. The Michigan team consists of Dar Bagby and Connie Thompson, local U.P. residents. The Florida team consists of Janet Beasley, Jean E. Lane and Elise VanCise. Together the JLBCP team holds in excess of 100 years experience in the literary world.

JLB Creatives Publishing's CEO Janet Beasley was eager to join in when Dar told her what was in the works. Being that Janet is the founder/owner of JLB Creatives Publishing she suggested that the company would like to bring all of the JLBCP team on board to speak at the classes regarding their areas of expertise. She also wanted the aspiring authors to have the opportunity to go through an entire publishing process, including having their short stories and novellas published by a true trade publisher.

It is with pride and joy that JLB Creatives has become the sole publisher as well as the facilitating team for this worthy activity.

The YWW books are available through Smashwords and on an Overdrive regional list.

Be sure to download your FREE copies HERE today of these fine aspiring authors' works.

It's Book Trailer Tuesday! Check Out Book Trailer #1

Hello fans and followers! Welcome to the first of four Book Trailer Tuesdays here at the JLB Creatives Publishing Blog. We are going to feature one book trailer every Tuesday for the next four Tuesdays from our author Janet Beasley's Hidden Earth Series. This week we kick off Book Trailer Tuesday with Hidden Earth Series Volume 1 Maycly the Trilogy  Enjoy!

Lill and Mewe Series is not just fun but Science Faction!

The Science Faction adventure written by author Jean E. Lane will delight kids and adults with a journey to Mars interwoven with scientific facts that make reading a fun learning experience.

About Lill and Mewe and the Secrets of Mars
Book one in the Lill and Mewe series
The year is 2456MD, (Mars Date) however the story events are happening in present times. The Martians track time a little differently than us Earthlings. To the average eye, the planet Mars seems dead, uninviting, dusty, and void of water. I say life did exist there at one time, and still does; we just haven’t scratched the surface yet. Maybe there’s a lot more happening than we can imagine, just because you can’t see something, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist right?

The secrets beneath the surface could tell another story. The story of Lill and Mewe, as told by Lill herself of how she feels about the lost history of Mars, her current life, and the great strides the Martians have made to recapture the advanced intelligence and technology of their past. It’s all about the role they play in our solar system and how they feel about us Earthlings. Are we even worth talking to? What could they possibly learn from us? Maybe we have more to learn from them, but are we willing to open our minds?

About Author Jean E Lane
Jean grew up in the once active steel town of Youngstown, Ohio. Since then, she has moved to the Orlando,
Florida area and considers this her home. Shortly afterwards, she met and later married her husband Ken; now they have a home just northwest of Orlando.

She studied Journalism at Writers Institute and Finance at Penn State. Most of her life included working in Accounting and Purchasing. Although she liked working with numbers, she knew she had an aptitude for writing at an early age. Jean had poems published in Seacoast Life Magazine, Wide Open Magazine, and was a poetic contributor to The Copy Desk Flash, a school newspaper. Later she signed a contract with Creative Directions as a free-lance writer of verse for greeting cards.

It was her love of science and science fiction that prompted her to write her first children’s novel, “Lill and Mewe and the Secrets of Mars”, the first of her series. Her inspiration came with the birth of her niece Lily and shortly afterwards a nephew, Andrew. As with all children, she wanted them to enjoy reading…and there’s nothing like a good adventure.

Lill and Mewe and the Secrets of Mars ISBN 978-1-63324-000-1

You can find Lill and Mewe and the Secrets of Mars print and e-book at most retailers and don't forget to pick up book two Lill and Mewe and the Ocean of Runa! Book three Lill and Mewe: Mission to Zanda is coming soon!
